Another twist in the road was straitened our today. We woke up in Palma because we needed to get Augie’s bike fixed after his accident on the Sa Calobra. Because Mallorca is such a popular place for cyclers, we didn’t have much trouble finding a place where Augie could rent a new trekking bike. Today, in order to achieve efficient and complete success we decided it was best to split up to fully solve the pickle we were in. Basically, our situation was that we had a broken bike on our hands, needed to get a new one, and didn’t know what to do with the broken one because we still needed to fly back to Madrid with it. We decided splitting up was best because I could take Augie’s bike to a storage place and rent out a unit while Augie took my bike to the rental place where he would rent a bike and wait for me. When we met up, Augie would have his new bike, I would have line, and Augie’s broken one would be stored away until we fly out this weekend. It turned out, finding the storage place wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. Because I ran out of data on my Spanish SIM card, I can only get service with WiFi. When the directions I had on my phone took me to a locked up storage unit area with no front desk or anything, I had to do some quick thinking. (PS this place was a 40 minute walk away with Augie’s broken bike). This place highly populated with factories but luckily there was a McDonalds nearby where I walked to and got WiFi to connect with Augie. It turned out Augie had successfully gotten his bike which was good and now we just needed to get rid of his old one. Because Augie had service on his phone, I found the phone number that would be helpful for us on an advertisement for the storage rental place and asked Augie to call them. Augie arrramged me to meet up with someone who worked there at a different address half a mile away. I immediately grabbed the broken bike and started walking to the new location. Walking there, I was a little nervous because I was pretty unsure where I was going and I had no service. Leaving the WiFi felt like going out bare into the wild. When I arrived, I was greeted by a nice lady who walked me through everything and had the bike stowed away in no time. When’s Augie and I met up again; we loaded up our bikes and took the public bus across the island to Port de Pollença which is around the area we would be if Augie never crashed. We did some gymnastics on a pretty beach to celebrate our successful solution to a tricky problem. Tomorrow we bike across the north end of Mallorca. The next three days should be some cool ones and we will hopefully end in Palma in four days having completed circling the circumference of the island!
Good problem solving! We miss you and can't wait to have you back!
